Olympus Pen E-P2
Olympus Pen E-P2 IS Error Repair
This is a repair case for an Olympus Pen E-P2 that was displaying an IS error. As is common, the cause of the error was a cracked motor pinion gear in the IS unit, which prevented the mechanism from operating normally. This seems to be a frequent issue in other models as well. I was able to successfully repair it by cutting a small amount from the cracked part of the pinion gear for both the X and Y axes, slightly shaving down the shaft, and then securing it with adhesive. Required Skills • Precision soldering, disassembling and reassembling tiny mechanical parts, and an eccentric personality that enjoys tedious tasks. Required Tools • Precision Phillips screwdriver (#00 recommended) • Precision tweezers • Soldering iron & solder sucker, etc. • Spudger • Screw management mat (FixMat, commercially available magnetic sheet, etc.) Notice • This guide is incomplete and was created based on memory and photos from the time, so I would appreciate it if you could point out any errors. • Repairs involve risks, including the possibility of injury, burns, smoke or fire, and the device ending up in a worse condition as a result of disassembly. Please proceed at your own risk if you choose to try this.

About Repair Procedures
- Since an IS error occurred with this unit as well, I checked and repaired the pinion gear.
- The E-P2 is a sibling model of the E-P1, which was released slightly earlier in the same period, and its specs, internal structure, and teardown procedures are almost identical. *In terms of appearance, the hot shoe is slightly higher, and a connector has been added under the shoe.
- Therefore, for further information regarding the repair, please refer to the separately created E-P1 guide. Sorry for being lazy.
